Information from National Archives Australia digitised service records: He was employed as a labourer and he stated his next of kin as his father, Ralph Arnold, of Milton, Derbyshire, late of Shackerston, Warwickshire and Owen's Creek, Garget, Mackay, Queensland, Australia. Five feet six and a half inches tall, he weighed 12 stone, had a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair, and belonged to the Church of England. Personal effects returned to his father after his death included a disc, a cigarette case, a damaged pipe and letters.
